Lawfuel – The Law Newswire – Larry Birkhead, father of the late Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter Dannielynn, obtained a U.S. passport for the seven month old girl and is to take her to the United States, his lawyer said.
Dannielynn and her father are expected to leave the Bahamas within the next few days. While Birkhead has been a Los Angeles-based photographer, one report gives their destination as Kentucky.
A Bahamian court order last week authorized Birkhead to take Dannielynn out of the country after months of legal battles to prove his paternity claim and gain custody.
Last week, the Nassau registry revised Dannielynn’s birth certificate in line with a court order to change her last name to Birkhead and remove the reference to Howard Stern as the father. Stern, Smith’s last companion, has been caring for the girl in the oceanfront home he shared with Smith.
An appeals court rejected an attempt by Anna Nicole’s mother, Virgie Arthur, to block Birkhead from leaving with the girl. Arthur argued he might not return as directed for a June 8 hearing in their custody dispute – an accusation Birkhead denied.
