LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – Munich prosecutors said Wednesday they have met with investigators from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to discuss possible legal assistance in an ongoing probes into bribery at Siemens AG.
SEC representatives, as well as investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and officials from the Department Of Justice held discussions to sound out what possible assistance the U.S. officials could receive from the Germans.
“The aim was to assess the chances to request legal assistance,” Munich prosecutor Christian Schmidt-Sommerfeld said.
Earlier this year, the SEC launched a formal investigation into the Munich-based industrial conglomerate, after claims surfaced regarding questionable payments and alleged bribes worth around €420 million (US$570 million) total.
Munich prosecutors have launched their own probes into Siemens, which also faces investigations by Norway, France and Poland over possible antitrust violations. Italy, Switzerland and the European Commission and Japan’s Fair Trade Commission, are also looking into possible wrongdoing.
