LAWJOBSPIPELINE.COM – Law Jobs – One way to earn a decent living – uncovered to his vast cost – was that of a former Anderson Kill paralegal who was indicted today in New York for “pretending to be an attorney.”

WSJ “Law Blog” reports that Brian Valery was charged with grand larceny for stealing at least $284,350 in pay from the firm. The district attorney’s office detailed a colorful account of how Valery allegedly pulled the wool over on Anderson Kill in order to get promoted to attorney.

What the report does show is something about salaries. Valery, 32, started working at the firm in December 1996 as a paralegal making $21,000 a year. In 1998, he told the firm he had enrolled in the evening program at Fordham Law and four years later said he had graduated, according to the DA.
