Experienced Attorneys Kay R. Sherman & Daniel T. Simpson, Jr. Join the Firm

Sherman and Daniel T. Simpson, Jr.

Ms. Sherman, who practiced law with Gallop, Johnson & Neuman in 1993-2000, rejoins the firm as counsel. Ms. Sherman has more than 20 years experience representing clients in intellectual property matters, including the identification, prosecution, transfer and protection of trademarks, trade dress, domain names and copyrights.

She has substantial experience negotiating and documenting diverse intellectual property agreements, including trademark and technology license agreements. Her practice encompasses matters for international corporations, small businesses and individuals in the U.S. and overseas. Ms. Sherman also works closely with corporate attorneys on due diligence and other intellectual property aspects of major transactions, and with litigation attorneys on trademark, copyright and unfair competition issues.

Before re-joining the firm, Ms. Sherman served as in-house trademark counsel for a major consumer products company, where she managed an extensive international trademark portfolio.

Ms. Sherman earned a J.D. degree from Columbia University School of Law, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and an M.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University. She also earned a B.A. in English Magna Cum Laude from the University of Rochester. Ms. Sherman is licensed to practice in Missouri, Illinois and New York. She a member of the International Trademark Association and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.

Mr. Simpson joins the firm as an associate and registered patent attorney in the Intellectual Property Practice Group, focusing his practice in matters of litigation and patent preparation and prosecution. He represents clients in diverse intellectual property matters, and has significant experience in the chemical and pharmaceutical arts. He also counsels clients regarding Internet and technology law.

Mr. Simpson’s patent experience includes domestic and international applications, including those filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty. His litigation experience also includes mediation and arbitration, corporate defense, as well as bench trial and extensive deposition and motion practice.

Mr. Simpson earned an L.L.M. in Intellectual Property and Technology Law from Washington University School of Law, and a J.D. degree from Saint Louis University. He also earned a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Rockhurst University. Early in his career, he served as in-house legal counsel for a major pharmaceutical company. Mr. Simpson is a member of The Missouri Bar, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, American Chemical Society, and other professional associations.
