APRIL 24, 2008 (Washington, DC) — Registration is now open for the Association of Corporate Counsel’s (“ACC”) 6th Annual Corporate Counsel University® (CCU) in San Francisco, May 21-23 (http://ccu.acc.com/). For attorneys new to in-house, or for those wishing to sharpen their management and in-house practice skills, CCU has become the gold standard for corporate counsel. CCU provides an opportunity for attendees to learn first-hand from their successful in-house colleagues who have overcome challenges and ‘mastered their games,’ with a focus on the basics needed to succeed.
“ACC recently released the results of its Chief Legal Officer Survey, and 85 percent of the CLOs surveyed found their careers to be rewarding and they welcomed opportunities to expand their roles,” explains Deborah House, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Legal Resources and Strategic Initiatives. “We want to help inspire, educate and keep those new to in-house positions informed to ensure that they, too, are happy. CCU programs have been developed to provide a forum for in-house counsel to exchange best practices and provide practical tips and hands-on advice for those issues corporations are confronted with – and in-house lawyers are addressing – every day.”
The San Francisco CCU program has lined up speakers from DuPont Legal, Wells Fargo, and McDonald’s Corporation to address such topics as What You Should Know about Litigation; Effective Outside Counsel Management; Understanding Intellectual Property; and Managing a Compliance & Ethics Program. More intensive courses on leadership, finance and accounting and ethics for in-house counsel are also available.
In addition to the in-house counsel sessions, CCU has a track of programs specifically for in-house paralegals on Records Retention; Effective Communication Skills; and Corporate Finance, among others.
