Legal Announcements – Sughrue Mion Continues to Expand California Practice

San Diego Office Adds To Growing IP Litigation and Prosecution Team

WASHINGTON, D.C. – LAW FIRM Newswire – (July 29, 2008) – Sughrue Mion, PLLC, a leading global intellectual property law firm, announced today the expansion of its San Diego office, adding associate Ruthleen Uy. Ms. Uy has been an associate in Sughrue’s Washington, D.C. office for the past six years preparing and prosecuting patents in a variety of fields relating to computer software, computer hardware, telecommunications, medical imaging and electrical arts.

“With the addition of Ruthleen, the San Diego office has an even broader range of IP experience and expertise to better serve our spectrum of technology and software clients in California and Asia,” said John Scherling, a litigation partner in Sughrue’s San Diego office. “We are extremely pleased to have her join us and believe she adds a new dimension to our team.”

Ms. Uy’s addition strengthens a growing California presence for Sughrue Mion, after having earlier added John Scherling and James Hall as partners in the San Diego and Mountain View offices, respectively. Also based in the San Diego office is Scott Davison, whose experience with medical devices, biotechnology, semiconductors, telecommunications, signal processing and imaging, ensures that Sughrue is well positioned to counsel on IP issues in virtually any industry. The steady increase in Sughrue’s California staff is further evidence of the firm’s strong IP client base, which includes Sepracor, Upjohn, IBM Corporation and Toshiba.

“Ruthleen has done fantastic work for us out of our Washington, D.C. office,” said Cindy Weber, managing partner at Sughrue Mion. “We look forward to the great contributions we know she will make for our West Coast and Asian clients as our business in those regions grow.”

While at Sughrue, Ms. Uy has prosecuted patents in a wide range of technology and software applications, working on memory management including the restoration and recovery of memory data, data compression, data encryption/decryption and data storage. She has extensive work with Internet hardware-related patents, including Ethernet/SONET, VoIP, IP Multicast, Routers, WDM, Network software, xDSL, CDMA, Optical Networking, 3Gx, GSM and UMTS.
