London – LAWFUEL – DLA Piper has strengthened its London finance and projects practice with the appointment of partner, Alex Dell.

Dell, who joins DLA Piper from Hammonds, specialises in asset based lending (“ABL”) and is considered to be one of the UK’s leading lawyers in this field. He advises both UK and international banks and finance houses on the financing of receivables, inventory, plant & machinery, real property and other related banking transactions, whether bilateral, club or multi-bank. Dell is a dedicated ABL specialist who has worked on several of the UK’s leading domestic and cross-border transactions.
Dell began his career as a trainee solicitor at Wildes and was made salaried partner in 2000, before Wildes merged with Hammonds in 2001. He was made an equity partner in 2004.

DLA Piper’s UK finance and projects practice provides a range of services and is now set to develop the structured finance division within the team. Working closely with banking partners David Breakell and Alex Monk, and one of Dell’s former assistants at Hammonds, associate solicitor Louise Gates, Dell will support DLA Piper’s bid to become one of the leading ABL practices in London.

Michael Burton, DLA Piper’s Head of finance and projects, said: “This is a great appointment for our London practice and I am truly delighted to welcome Alex to the team. Asset based lending is an area that is key to our growth and by recruiting Alex, a dedicated specialist in this area of work, we intend to fully capitalise on our existing reputation in this market.”

Alex Dell said: “Joining DLA Piper represents a tremendous opportunity to develop the ABL proposition, and I very much look forward to working with colleagues, new and old. DLA Piper has a long-standing commitment to asset based lending, has excellent panel positioning, global coverage, and most importantly of all, a spirit of dynamism which mirrors that of the ABL industry itself.”
