New York, NY and Palo Alto, CA — Lowenstein Sandler continues to strengthen its national intellectual property practice, announcing today that the highly sought-after IP group led by Dan Ovanezian and Marina Portnova is joining the firm in its Palo Alto office. The eight-person patent prosecution team left the well-known valley firm of Blakely Sokoloff Taylor & Zafman to join Lowenstein.
“We could not be more thrilled that Dan, Marina and their team chose to bring their energy and creativity to Lowenstein. Their forward-looking, business-oriented approach fits perfectly with the entrepreneurial culture that makes Lowenstein Sandler different” said Gary Wingens, Lowenstein’s Chairman & CEO. “This team’s arrival will certainly enhance our ability to continue to deliver great value and service to our clients, and our newest clients will have at their disposal the comprehensive suite of legal services that Lowenstein offers.”
Kathi Rawnsley, who left Intel Capital less than three years ago to head up Lowenstein’s Palo Alto office, added, “Dan and Marina’s choice to come to Lowenstein, like Matt Kirmayer’s decision to join us from Mintz Levin last fall to continue his venture transactions practice, shows how great a platform Lowenstein has become for IP and technology work. Dan and Marina have great reputations and the skills to back them up. That’s why they’re the go-to lawyers for some of the most iconic names in the technology industry. They also have the business savvy to handle early stage venture-backed businesses.”
The eight-person group joining Lowenstein also includes Kevin Grange, Ashley Essick, Ben Kimes, Joan Arbolante, Paul Krueger and Tony Chen. They have collectively prosecuted thousands of patents, including many for companies that are well known in the venture and tech communities. “Intellectual Property is the core asset of the businesses in our space,” said Mark Kesslen, chairman of Lowenstein’s IP practice. “The addition of Dan and Marina’s team gives our clients the IP resources they need from coast to coast.”
