Mallesons Shortlisted for Global Derivatives Award

(LAWFUEL) 8 Sept – Mallesons Stephen Jaques has been nominated for “Law Firm of the Year” at Derivatives Week’s Global Derivatives Awards. The Awards recognise excellence in terms of people, companies and deals in the derivatives industry globally.

Derivatives Week’s editorial analysis for the “Law Firm of the Year” category notes: “Mallesons makes the short list this year for what fans say is very high-quality work in specialized areas. The firm has impressive local expertise in Hong Kong … It has made an aggressive push into Greater China over the last year, with enhanced coverage and more lawyers.”

Nominees have been selected by the editorial staff of Derivatives Week based on their industry-wide due diligence. This involves market intelligence, interviews with industry leaders and input from readers and the industry at large.

Senior Mallesons Banking & Finance partner, Berkeley Cox, said the firm was delighted to be nominated, given the global nature of the awards: “Our derivatives team, led by Scott Farrell, has a region-wide reputation for depth and knowledge of the market in the Asia Pacific, ” Mr Cox said.

“In Australia, we are able to apply our superior technical knowledge of the laws underpinning derivatives contracts as the authors of opinions for industry bodies to the structures that our clients develop,” Mr Cox added. “In Asia we are proud of our reputation for delivering derivatives expertise to a growing market in this area led by the work of partners such as Richard Mazzochi and Minny Siu and Senior Associate, Paul McBride.”

The Awards will be held in London on 6 October 2008.
