Matchmaking NZ – Wellington Dating – The Romance of Recession

– Matchmakers & Personal Introductions Agency – Recessions and romance don’t exactly go together like champagne and canapés, but for Wellington Matchmakers Rosie Bowie and Vaiata Mitchell , the tough times also bring out the softer side of people. For Wellington’s matchmakers, business is booming.

“Matchcompany has noticed a definite upswing in enquiries,” Rosie says “which seems to be in line with what is going on everywhere.”

The online dating world has noticed a surge in traffic with reports that unemployed people have more time to search for their ‘someone special.’ But for matchmaking services like Matchcompany, which focuses on finding people individually for clients, Rosie and Viata believe it is largely due to the fact that people are also wary of online dating and the associated costs of going for a series of meals with blind dates.

“Because we set people up after our screening process there is a lot of that fear factor removed from the process, but still the all-important mystery,” says Rosie.

She has recently achieved a number of permanent relationships and at least two marriages on the way. “It’s always enormously satisfying knowing you’ve got a successful match and a permanent relationship has been established. While we can’t work fast enough for some people, we really go the extra mile to ensure we try for the very best match”.

Matchcompany has been operating for 12 years in Wellington and also has a client base in Christchurch, which is also growing fast.

“The recession has focused a lot of people on the value of a relationship that is lasting rather than just based on money and jobs. It’s very good for love in that sense because it requires a return to more traditional values.

“While online dating will always be huge, the matchmaking services are all experiencing considerable growth in my experience which is partly a growing sophistication in the whole dating scene.

“Our main concern is to produce happy clients and with more enquiring and coming into the agency we’re better able to produce that result.”

The company is running a series of free seminars in November about personal relationship and other issues, details of which can be obtained by emailing or phoning Matchcompany – see Matchcompany.co.nz
