Mayer Brown Re-Establishes Its Hong Kong Presence

Mayer Brown have reestablished their Hong Kong operation as Johnson Stokes & Master, the name of the Hong Kong-based law firm that merged with Mayer Brown in 2008.

Most of the firm’s 170 lawyers have been based in Hong Kong, although Mayer Brown have over 1800 lawyers. Mayer Brown reduced its China presence and now has re-established itself with both firms operating in Hong Kong under their respective names.

Hong Kong, December 2, 2024 – Mayer Brown announced today the completion of the reorganization of its Asia office platform with the establishment of Mayer Brown Hong Kong LLP (MBHK), and the re-establishment of Johnson Stokes & Master (JSM), as two independent Hong Kong-based law firms.

Following the reorganization, Mayer Brown retains its offices in Singapore and Tokyo, in addition to its new Hong Kong presence. MBHK comprises more than 20 lawyers, focused on practices, products, and industries reflecting Mayer Brown’s strategic priorities both in Asia and globally, including capital markets, M&A, finance, IP/cybersecurity, projects and infrastructure, insurance, and energy. MBHK will be led by capital markets partner Thomas Kollar, who has been appointed managing partner in Hong Kong.
