Boston, Mass. (June 8, 2009) – McCarter & English announced today that David Burns has joined the firm as a partner in the Boston office. Mr. Burns has established himself as a top intellectual property lawyer specializing in the areas of medical devices and high technology following a successful career as an electrical engineer at Raytheon Company.

Mr. Burns comes to McCarter & English from the Boston firm Lahive & Cockfield. He follows a 12-member life sciences patent prosecution team that came to McCarter & English from Lahive & Cockfield in March.
Mr. Burns’ practice focuses on the strategic development, protection and management of patent portfolios for clients. He manages and has managed a number of patent portfolios including portfolios having over 100 issued U.S. and International patents. He works in a range of fields including software, optical electronics, microprocessor architecture and circuitry, electromagnetics, engine control systems, biometrics, telecommunication architectures and devices, fuel cells, solar cells and semiconductor fabrication.
Mr. Burns has a JD, cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School and a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
