Michael H. Traison, a principal at the law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., along with law clerk Maja Binkowska and attorneys from Miller Canfield’s Warsaw, Poland office, will give a presentation on bankruptcy to Polish trustees, bankruptcy judges, clients, and attorneys in Warsaw on May 28 and 29.
Traison and other representatives from Miller Canfield will discuss the role of a trustee in American bankruptcy law, negotiation techniques between creditors and debtors, classes of receivables, and preferential transfers and fraudulent conveyance. The seminar is organized by the Bankruptcy Law Practitioners and Liquidators’ Association. It will be held in English and simultaneously translated to Polish.
Traison resides in Miller Canfield’s Detroit office and frequently works in the firm’s Warsaw office. He practices in all areas of international law, commercial law, and debtor/creditor relations. In particular, he represents unsecured creditors, committees, trustees and debtors, under Chapter 11 and out-of-court workouts. He lectures extensively in and about Poland, including its legal developments.
He is a former vice-president and member of the board of directors of the Jewish Vocational Service and president of the American Israel Chamber of Commerce, a former board member of the Resettlement Service of the Jewish Family Service, as well as member of the Culture & Group Services Division of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. In addition, he is a member of the board of directors of the International, American section, Detroit chapter, and Warsaw, Poland Chapter of The International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists. He is the founder of the two-year-old Warsaw Chapter, the first such organization since the Holocaust.
He is a member of the Polish American-Jewish American Council, the Poland American Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Commercial Law League of America, and the National Association of Credit Management. He is a board member of the Detroit Chapter of the American Jewish Committee and sits on an advisory committee for the national organization.
