Feedback from law firms received by New Zealand solicitor jobs website LawFuel show that there is considerable increased optimism over prospects in 2010, compared to any period in the last 18 months. One mid-sized law firm partner said his firm would be looking to increase qualified staff in the litigation and commercial law areas and other lawyers also report a feeling of increased employment opportunities for lawyers this year.
The New Zealand legal scene has suffered a significant downturn, although legal jobs were generally not as badly affected as they have been in other jurisidictions, particularly the United Kingdom.
