NEW YORK – LAWFUEL – Law News & Law Jobs Network – Allen & Overy LLP announced today that Robert Knuts has joined the firm as a litigation partner in the New York office.

Mr. Knuts, 50, has 25 years of experience in securities litigation, with a focus on civil regulatory proceedings and white-collar criminal defence. From 1994 to 2003, he served as Senior Trial Counsel in the New York office of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and held other supervisory positions. At the SEC, he led numerous complex investigations concerning federal securities law violations and also worked closely with federal prosecutors on parallel criminal proceedings. He regularly served as lead litigation counsel in court, and his cases included two insider-trading trials. The SEC recognised Mr. Knuts for his contribution to its enforcement efforts, honouring him in 2001 with the Stanley Sporkin Award.

In private practice, most recently as a partner with Day, Berry & Howard LLP in New York, Mr. Knuts has successfully represented individuals and companies in civil and criminal investigations involving, among other issues, allegations of financial fraud, market timing, insider trading, undisclosed research conflicts, and improper pricing of distressed bonds and stock loans. He has served as counsel to the audit committees of two public companies, leading independent investigations concerning possible securities law violations and communicating the results to the SEC. In addition, at the request of the SEC, he has been appointed to serve as a receiver and company monitor in several important enforcement actions.

“Bob has a stellar reputation and we are very pleased to welcome him to Allen & Overy,” said Michael S. Feldberg, Co-Managing Partner and Head of Litigation for the firm’s U.S. practice. “Not only is he well-respected in the corporate world, but he has enormous experience working with the SEC on behalf of his clients. Bob will contribute substantially to our service to our clients, and to the growth of our U.S. practice.”
