NEW YORK–LAWFUEL- The Law Newswire – BDO Seidman, LLP, one of the nation’s leading professional service organizations, today announced that Brian J. Mich, JD, has joined the firm as a Director in the Litigation and Fraud Investigation practice. He will be responsible for engagements and investigations in matters involving the Foreign Corrupt Policies Act, internal corporate investigations, independent monitoring and employee misconduct investigations. Mr. Mich most recently served as Senior Counsel for the Independent Inquiry Committee (IIC) investigating the alleged corruption and mismanagement of the United Nations Oil-for-Food program.

“Brian’s vast knowledge of international crime as a result of his work with the IIC, will add a further dimension to our already extensive overseas anti-fraud work,” said Carl W. Pergola, National Director of the Litigation and Fraud Investigation practice at BDO Seidman and a member of the firm’s Board of Directors. “Further, his experience investigating and prosecuting complex financial and white-collar crimes in the U.S., including embezzlement, money laundering, tax violations, computer crimes, trademark counterfeiting and identity theft, will enable us to provide the best possible resources for clients who are facing these very serious issues.”

During his tenure with the IIC, Brian Mich, 46, was part of a team that conducted an independent comprehensive review of the work of nine United Nations agencies and programs that were charged with the distribution of humanitarian goods in three northern Iraqi governorates occupied by Iraq’s Kurdish population. He also served an integral role in the investigation that uncovered the kickback scheme involving the wrongful diversion of over $1 billion in program funds.

Prior to working with the IIC, Brian Mich served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Queens County District Attorney’s Office and the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. During his tenure in Queens County, he served as the Chief of the Economic and Environmental Crimes Bureau, the Organized Crime and Rackets Bureau and the Narcotics Investigation Bureau.
