OAKLAND – LAWFUEL – The Law Newswire – United States Attorney Scott N. Schools announced that on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, former U.S. Postal Service employee Darren Timothy Hercules, 39, of Oakland, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for assaulting U.S. Postal Police officers. Judge Wilken also sentenced Hercules to three years of supervised release, a $5,000 fine, and restitution in the amount of $201.50 for the medical bills sustained as a result of the injuries defendant caused. Defendant punched one officer in the jaw and hit another in the face, causing cuts above and below an eye. The officers were then able to subdue the defendant and remove him from the United States Postal facility.
Shashi Kewalramani is the Assistant U.S. Attorney who is prosecuting the case with the assistance of Lead Legal Assistant Cynthia Daniel. The prosecution is the result of an investigation by the United States Postal Inspection Service.
