Sollins, a principal in the firm’s Health Law Group, has received The Daily Record’s 2012 “Leadership in Law” Award. The award was presented at a dinner on November 15, 2012.Created in 2000, “Leadership in Law” honors Maryland legal professionals who are working to better the legal profession; strengthen the communities in which they live and work; and create a strong future generation of professional and community leaders through mentoring. This year, twenty-four members of the legal community were selected for the award.
Mr. Sollins has long history of community service with health care organizations and the University of Maryland professional schools. He has served on the boards of Stella Maris and the Waxter Senior Center Foundation. Through his work with the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service, Mr. Sollins has developed an ongoing connection to and service for the Light of Truth Center, providing a range of support to this organization supporting the needs of women in recovery.
He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Advisors of the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Social Work. Along with his wife, Barbara Resnick, Ph.D., CRNP, Mr. Sollins has established perpetual scholarships at the School of Social Work and at the University of Maryland School of Nursing.He is a past chair of the Health Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association. He served on a voluntary committee established by the Attorney General’s Office to revise its Guide to Nursing Homes.
He also served on the Special Drafting Committee on Health Care Decision-Making Legislation and is co-founder of www.marylandadvancedirectives.com, a resource for health care professionals who must comply with the Maryland Health Care Decisions Act.Mr. Sollins is a veteran of the complex world of health care law. His experience, which stretches over three decades, includes matters involving federal and state regulations; Medicare, Medicaid and other reimbursement; structuring business transactions and contracts; licensing, survey and certification; certificate of need; fraud and abuse; corporate compliance; and e-health and technology.
