BALTIMORE, MD April 11, 2012 – The law firm of Ober|Kaler is pleased to announce that E. Scott Johnson, chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, will receive the 2012 “Golden Formstone” Award at the annual Marquee Ball on April 14, 2012. The award, bestowed by the Creative Alliance, recognizes Scott for his leadership of numerous organizations serving the arts community and for his service as immediate-past Chair of the Maryland State Arts Council..
“The Creative Alliance is very important to Baltimore, a constant source of innovative quality programming and an effective promoter of Baltimore as a center for creative work. The Creative Alliance is very special to me, and I am truly honored,” says Scott.
For over 25 years, Scott Johnson has been a champion of the arts community in Maryland. A former musician and record producer, Scott is a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (Grammys). He is immediate-past Chair of the Maryland State Arts Council, having served as a member of the Arts Council from 2004 to 2010. Scott is a past-president of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, Young Audiences of Maryland and the CityLit Project, as well as past-president of Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, spearheading its revival several years ago. Scott co-founded and serves as Chair of the Maryland Film Industry Coalition, which successfully advocated passage of the Maryland Film Production Employment Act of 2011, legislation that brought major television and film productions back to Maryland. In 2011, Scott received the Sue Hess Maryland Arts Advocate Award from Maryland Citizens for the Arts. He recently completed service as a member of the National Endowment for the Arts’ 2012 Regional Partnership panel, and he currently serves on the boards of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation and Young Audiences of Maryland. He served as a trustee of the Creative Alliance from 2004 to 2008.
Since 2004, the Golden Formstone Award has been presented annually by the Creative Alliance for “formidable contributions” to Baltimore through the arts. Past recipients of this award include David Simon, creator of “The Wire” and author of “Homicide: Life on the Street”; Fred Lazarus, IV, President of the Maryland Institute College of Art; and the late Nancy Haragan, founding Director of Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance.”
