OJ Simpson – Where’s Johnny Cochran When He Needs Him – Again

LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – OJ Simpson is again facing the possibility of life in prison.

The former American football star was last night being held at a Las Vegas jail awaiting a court hearing on charges he robbed two sports memorabilia collectors at gunpoint. He faces at least seven charges relating to the incident, including two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of burglary with a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit burglary.

If convicted, 60-year-old Simpson could sentenced to a maximum of 30 years for each robbery count alone.

As Simpson, who was cleared of the 1994 murders of his ex-wife and her friend, was led into a Las Vegas jail on Sunday, onlookers yelled “Guilty!” and “No Johnnie to save you this time, OJ!” – a reference to Johnnie Cochran, the late lawyer who secured his murder acquittal.

The fallen NFL star is being held without bail and due to appear in court on Thursday. His lawyer, Yale Galanter, said he hoped to get Simpson released before the hearing. “Mr. Simpson is not guilty of these charges,” Mr Galanter said. Simpson has denied any wrongdoing and said he was merely retrieving items that had been stolen from him. He has also denied any guns were involved in the incident at the Palace Station casino on Thursday.
