Of counsel Jerry Cohen will speak to the American Chamber of Commerce’s Law Committee at a breakfast meeting on the importance of PRC criminal law to foreign business people on October 4 in Hong Kong. Drawing on experiences from his long practice dealing with China, Jerry will illustrate how contract disputes can easily take on serious criminal law dimensions if dissatisfied local partners enlist police and prosecutors to weigh in on their side of the negotiations against representatives of the foreign party, while sometimes imaginative and knowledgeable foreign negotiators can turn the tables by using the criminal law to help achieve a fair settlement.
