LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – Officers investigating armed robbery offences linked to an incident where two men were shot dead have today [21.11.07] arrested six men.
The Flying Squad investigation has identified a series of linked robberies, some armed and others unarmed, on cash in transit vehicles in the south London area and the Home Counties.
All six men, aged 25-32 ys, were arrested as part of a pre-planned intelligence led operation for conspiracy to commit cash in transit robberies from various locations, mainly in the South London area.
These robberies are connected to the attempted armed robbery of a cash in transit vehicle outside the HSBC bank in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire on
13.9.07 during which Mark Nunes and Andrew Markland were fatally shot by armed officers from the MPS. Three shots had been discharged from police weapons. A loaded handgun, used in the attack on a security guard outside the bank, was recovered at the scene.
The shootings are the subject on an independent investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Detective Chief Inspector Martin Huxley, from Metropolitan Police Flying Squad, said: “This is an ongoing investigation into a series of cash in transit robberies. These arrests demonstrate that the police will use the highest quality skills and resources to target priority and prolific offenders that cause harm to our communities.”
