TUCSON, Ariz. – LAWFUEL – Law News, Law Jobs Network – Rodolfo Alonso Cano, aka SAM, 33, of Chihuahua, Mexico, was
sentenced by U.S. District Judge Raner C. Collins on December 12, 2006, to 180 months imprisonment for his plea of guilty to Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Cocaine, and Marijuana, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, and 60 months imprisonment concurrently for his plea of guilty to being an Alien in Possession of a Firearm. He was also sentenced to five years supervised release.
On July 8, 2004, federal agents executed a search warrant at 10902 W. Montecito, Phoenix, Arizona, where the defendant resided. Agents seized 9.7 pounds of methamphetamine, $319,640.00, drug ledgers, and a .45 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol from the defendant’s bedroom. They also seized four other firearms and other indicia of a large scale drug trafficking organization. An analysis
of the drug ledgers revealed that at least 35 kilograms of methamphetamine, 146 kilograms of cocaine, and 1500 kilograms of marijuana were distributed by this drug trafficking organization.
The defendant admitted that he had been living in the United States illegally since 1995 and that he had used false social security numbers to obtain employment.
All of the other indicted members of the conspiracy remain fugitives.
The investigation in this case was conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Nogales, Arizona. The prosecution was handled by Susan A. Baumann, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Tucson.
