NEW ORLEANS– LAWFUEL – The US Legal Announcement Service –CrimeReports.com has partnered with the San Jose (CA) Police Department and the Metropolitan Police of Washington, D.C., among several others, to make personalized, timely crime data available to more than three million citizens across the United States.
CrimeReports.com allows law enforcement agencies to provide neighborhood crime information to citizens in near real-time and empowers citizen participation in community policing. These “Foundation Partner” departments are comprised of law enforcement agencies that are committed to using best available technology to engage the public and keep them informed. These agencies will play a pivotal role in the development of CrimeReports.com’s future services.
CrimeReports.com will include up to 30 departments in the Foundation Partners program to define the future direction of services, including:
Analytics and dashboards for use by crime analysts and other members of law enforcement
Video integration, allowing law enforcement to attach digital video of specific crimes to alerts when available
SMS and telephone alerting, allowing law enforcement to send instant alerts to specific neighborhoods
Neighborhood Watch tools, where residents of specific neighborhoods can organize and contribute information.

The service is free to the public and allows citizens to receive alerts automatically via email if/when crimes occur within a specified distance of their homes. It also allows citizens to view reported crime activity on an easy-to-use map for any location within city boundaries. The system identifies the date, time, event number, event type, location and distance from the citizen’s address. Police departments also have the ability to provide customized information, such as final disposition of the event or a police narrative. Event location information is provided at the block level or intersection. Incidents are updated nightly.
As a Foundation Partner, there is no cost to the department to participate for the initial year. Following the introductory period, total cost will average about $200 per month and is based on agency size. There are no additional fees for setup, maintenance or support.
