New Partner Brings Two Distinct Practices:
Probate Litigation and Representation of International Energy Client
(June 3, 2009, Princeton, N.J.) – Reed Smith LLP, one of the 15 largest law firms in the world, has added John M. Loalbo as a partner in its Tax, Benefits & Wealth Planning Group. Mr. Loalbo will be resident in the firm’s Princeton office, effective immediately. He was formerly a partner in the Roseland office of Wolf Block.
“John is an experienced, successful lawyer with a breadth of experience in probate litigation, as well as in counseling a large international energy corporation,” said John D. Martini, Chair of Reed Smith’s firmwide Tax, Benefits & Wealth Planning Group. “Approximately half of his practice is devoted to trust and estate matters in New Jersey, and the other half involves the representation of a large and expanding privately owned, international corporation in the energy and environmental sector.”
Mr. Loalbo has served as senior business advisor and strategist for an international corporate client, which is headquartered in New Jersey and England. This company is currently active in metal reclamation, waste energy conversion, and environmental cleanup operations, based on its patented technology for gasifying organic material, and is anticipating construction of numerous plants in the United States and abroad. In addition, he has recently begun working with another company relative to developing wind powered turbines around the world. Reed Smith already has considerable experience serving clients in the energy and alternative energy industry, and has regularly represented companies in the wind energy sector since 1987.

In addition to his work in the energy sector, Mr. Loalbo has an in-depth knowledge of trust and estates law, and has particular experience in probate litigation. His probate litigation practice includes will contests, will and trust reformations, and all other estate and trust litigation, and handling tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service in Federal District and Federal Tax Court, and tax disputes with the State of New Jersey with the New Jersey Division of Taxation in the New Jersey Tax Court. Mr. Loalbo also has experience with planning and administering trusts and estates.
Mr. Loalbo earned his LL.M. in Taxation from Boston University School of Law in 1987, and his J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1986. He held positions on both the Boston University Journal of Tax Law and the Canadian-American Law Journal.
Among his pro bono activities, Mr. Loalbo has appeared before the New Jersey Supreme Court as amicus curiae in C.I.C. Corp., et al. v. Township of East Brunswick, a case involving the protection of minors regarding a municipal ban on cigarette machines. He has also provided advice and counsel to the state of New Jersey and numerous municipalities regarding the same issues involved in this case.
