LAWFUEL – The US Legal Newswire – On October 5, 2007 Matthew CAULK and Amber WESTBROOK were located in Morrison, Colorado. Amber WESTBROOK was unharmed and reunited with her parents this morning.
An anonymous tip was called into the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department that led to the arrest of CAULK and the location of Amber WESTBROOK at approximately 9:00am today. Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department responded and located WESTBROOK and CAULK in the 9600 block of City View Drive in Jefferson County. The anonymous tip was certainly a direct result of the rapid and extensive media coverage given in this matter.
CAULK is currently being held on two outstanding warrants for his arrest. Lakewood Police Department, Lakewood, Colorado, filed a Failure to Register as a Sex Offender charge on 09/28/2007. Yellowstone County Sheriffs Department, Billings, Montana, filed a Probation Violation warrant based upon a Failure to Register as a Sex Offender filed on 05/07/2007. Additional criminal charges may be filed when the investigation is complete.
The U.S. Marshals Service assists many Federal, State and Local agencies in the apprehension of fugitives. In July, 2006, legislation was enacted identified as the Adam Walsh Act, 18 USC 2250, which empowers the U.S. Marshals Service to assist other agencies and investigate matters involving persons who engage in interstate travel and fail to register as a sex offender. The maximum possible penalty is 10 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.
