Vienna, Prague, Sofia – LAWFUEL – Legal News, Legal Jobs – DLA Piper Weiss-Tessbach announced today that it has opened a new office in Sofia. The office is set to further strengthen the presence of DLA Piper’s 11 other offices across Central and Eastern Europe (“CEE”) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (“CIS”). Peter Valert, the newly hired international commercial partner in Prague, will head up the office. He headed CMS Cameron McKenna’s Sofia office, prior to joining DLA Piper Weiss-Tessbach.
The Sofia office will initially advise clients with a team of seven fee earners, four of which previously worked in CMS Cameron McKenna’s Sofia office. Additional lawyers will be appointed over the coming months. Peter Valert, who has significant experience of the Bulgarian market and an established relationship with various relevant governmental bodies, will lead the team.

The team in Bulgaria consists of local lawyers who have both local and international experience. The office will initially focus on corporate and M&A, telecommunication, IT, IP, real estate, infrastructure and employment but in time it will look to build a full service capability in line with other DLA Piper offices. The team is particularly skilled in the area of share and asset transactions, setting up and structuring businesses and implementing new market entry strategies, as well as expansion plans in Bulgaria. In the area of infrastructure and project finance the Bulgarian team will also be able to draw on the significant expertise of other DLA Piper lawyers located across CEE.
