Washington, D.C. – LAWFUEL – The Law Newswire – Director Robert S. Mueller, III has named Weysan Dun Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Newark Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Mr. Dun was most recently SAC of the Springfield Division.
Mr. Dun began his career as an FBI Special Agent in 1982. He served in the San Francisco, Omaha, and Chicago Divisions, where he specialized in national security matters, high technology theft investigations, violent crimes, terrorism, and extremist matters. While in Omaha, Mr. Dun directed and conducted a domestic terrorism investigation that resulted in the dismantling of an extremist organization in southeastern Nebraska in 1985.
In 1988, Mr. Dun was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent of the National Security Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He also served as an Assistant Inspector in the Inspection Division. In 1991, Mr. Dun became a Supervisory Senior Resident Agent in the Hartford, CT Resident Agency, where he directed several Violent Crimes Gang Task Forces that helped dismantle a number of violent street gangs in Connecticut. Mr. Dun also led numerous Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigations targeting major drug trafficking groups in New England.
Mr. Dun returned to FBI Headquarters in 1997, where he directed the creation of the Program Management and Coordination Unit in the Organized Crime/Drug Investigations Branch of the Criminal Investigative Division. Mr. Dun served as chief of this unit until he was designated Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Omaha Division in July 1998. In Omaha, Mr. Dun directed a number of significant drug, violent crime, domestic terrorism, and cyber crime investigations, and the implementation of the Nebraska/Iowa Joint Terrorism Task Force. In July 2002, he was promoted to Inspector in the Inspection Division at FBI Headquarters, where he served until July 2003, when he was designated SAC of the Springfield Division.
Mr. Dun is native of Kirksville, Missouri. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He served in the United States Army, Military Intelligence Branch, where he attained the rank of Captain and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
