Legal Tech News – Harvey to Open Tokyo Office

Tokyo

Harvey will open an office in Tokyo in early 2027, deepening our commitment to supporting law firms and in-house legal teams in Japan.

Trust is earned over time through close collaboration and consistent support. As we grow in Japan, we are investing in a local presence to build lasting relationships, listen to our customers, and ensure their needs guide how we continue to build and grow here.

Our Tokyo office will support our growing customer base in Japan and deepen relationships with law firms including Mori Hamada & Matsumoto and Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, and in-house legal teams, including Mitsubishi Corporation. A local presence will help us work more closely with these teams and strengthen the support we provide.

We are also building Harvey to better support work in Japanese and reflect the needs of legal professionals in Japan. This includes our partnership with Legalscape for Japanese legal research. Working with local experts and listening to customer feedback will help guide how we develop our product and support its use.

“Japan is a critical market for legal and home to many exceptional law firms and companies. With the government investing in AI acceleration country-wide, there’s no better time to bring Harvey to Tokyo,” said Winston Weinberg, Harvey’s Chief Executive Officer. “Having a team in Japan will help us better understand the needs of legal professionals in Japan and make their experience central to how we build and grow here.”

Koji Toshima, Partner and CFO, Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, said, “Since establishing our partnership with Harvey in 2024, we have worked closely together to explore how AI can enhance the quality and efficiency of legal services in Japan. Harvey’s decision to open a Tokyo office is a very welcome and significant milestone, demonstrating its strong commitment to the Japanese legal market. Building on our collaboration to date, including our recent support in bringing about the partnership between Harvey and Legalscape, we look forward to further strengthening our collaboration with Harvey to advance the development of innovative AI solutions tailored to the needs of Japanese legal practice and deliver even greater value to our clients in Japan and around the world.”

Tokyo will expand Harvey’s existing presence across Asia-Pacific, alongside our teams in Sydney, Singapore, and Bengaluru. Globally, more than 3,500 customers in over 85 countries use Harvey. We are grateful for the trust our customers in Japan have placed in us and look forward to building on our work here, alongside the lawyers and legal teams we serve.
